'Then SSP should be suspend otherwise..': 'Unsatisfied' HC's strict direction in Lawrence Bishnoi interview case

Lawrence Bishnoi Interview, Lawrence Bishnoi Interview Case, Punjab Haryana HC Lawrence Bishnoi Interview Case: In a massive development, Punjab & Haryana High Court came down heavily in the Lawrence Bishnoi Interview case. The case of gangster Lawrence's TV interview in CIA Kharar was heard in the Punjab and Haryana High Court today (November 19). In its strict stance, the court said that why action was not taken against the then SSP of Mohali responsible in this case.

The bench of Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal and Justice Lapita Banerji was hearing the case. The bench orally asked the Punjab Government to consider reinstating the head constables and constables suspended in the matter and to ensure that "lower level officers are not made scapegoat."

High Court on Lawrence Bishnoi Interview

As per Dainik Bhasker report, the High Court stated that the then SSP should be suspended. The court asked many questions to the government's lawyer and reportedly said that action should be taken against the responsible officers till the next hearing. The High Court also clarified that if no action will be taken against officers responsible in the case then the Home Department Secretary will have to appear in this case on December 2.

'Not satisfied with the answer of SSP'

The report suggest that during the hearing, the court asked what action had been taken against the then SSP of Mohali responsible in this case. Why was he not suspended? Why is an officer being protected? In the court, the government's lawyer said that the government had issued a show cause notice to the officer. The officer has filed a reply with which the government is not satisfied.

The lawyer reportedly informed the court that the officer said that DSP Gursher Sandhu was in charge of the CIA at that time. The court said that action has been taken against lower-level officers. When phones are caught in jail, action is taken against the warden. In such a situation, the SSP is in charge of the entire district. The court said that action should be taken in this matter till the next hearing.

High Court on Punjab DGP Press Conference denying Lawrence's interview in Punjab

The High Court also asked that when Lawrence was interviewed, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav had said that the interview did not take place in Punjab. On what basis was this said? The court has sought the transcript of that press conference. The lawyer had said that Lawrence was not in Punjab at that time. That is why it has been said. 

It is pertinent to mention here that during the last hearing, the court had re-constituted the SIT under the leadership of Special DGP Prabodh Kumar. ADGP Neelabh Kishore and ADGP Nageshwar Rao were included in the SIT. They were also ordered to investigate from the angle of criminal conspiracy and corruption.

Police took action against these officers in Lawrence Bishnoi's interview case

Action has been taken by Punjab Police against the officers responsible for the first interview. It includes officers and employees from DSP to Head Constable rank. It includes DSP Gursher Singh (9th Battalion located in Amritsar), DSP Samar Vaneet, Sub Inspector Reena (posted in CIA Kharar), Sub Inspector Jagatpal Jangu (posted in AGTF), Sub Inspector Shaganjit Singh (AGTF), ASI Mukhtiar Singh and Head Constable Om Prakash. The second interview is being investigated by Rajasthan Police.

Two interviews of the gangster went viral. According to the SIT report, the first interview took place on 3 and 4 September 2023. Lawrence was kept in CIA Kharar in Punjab at that time. The second interview took place in the Central Jail in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
