To address the persistent traffic issues in Ludhiana, Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma has launched a special initiative. As part of this plan, the city’s traffic system, which was previously divided into four zones, has now been reorganized into eight zones. This move aims to streamline traffic flow and reduce road accidents across the city.

In a step towards modernization and efficiency, the Commissioner also flagged off eight new patrol vehicles. These vehicles will serve the integrated duties of both traffic management and the Police Control Room (PCR). Equipped with walkie-talkies, GPS systems, and under the supervision of designated zone in-charges, the vehicles will ensure real-time monitoring and quick response across zones.

Commissioner Sharma emphasized that these vehicles will be stationed at major traffic points across various zones, and will receive backend support from the PCR. In case of severe traffic congestion, both traffic personnel and PCR teams will work jointly to resolve the situation swiftly.

Furthermore, the vehicles will be operational 24/7 in two shifts, ensuring round-the-clock presence on city roads. The Commissioner highlighted that eight major roads in Ludhiana, known for frequent congestion, will be given special attention and dominated by enforcement to maintain traffic flow.

Each zone in-charge will bear the responsibility of monitoring traffic hotspots and ensuring smooth movement in those areas. To enhance accountability and performance, around 96 police personnel have been transferred based on their performance records. The Commissioner affirmed that this campaign to improve traffic management will continue with full force.
