In a tragic accident on Monday, a private school bus belonging to Tara Singh Memorial School collided with a motorcycle, leading to the tragic death of an 8-year-old girl in Kapurthala. The accident also left the motorcycle riders, a couple, and their 1.5-year-old daughter seriously injured. The injured are currently getting treated at the Civil Hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place near the village of Hothiyan. Suman Rani, a resident of Mansoorwal, shared that she and her husband, Simranjeet Singh, had taken their two daughters, Seerat and Bani, to the Mata Bhadarkali Temple in Shekhpur. While returning home, a private school bus, coming from the wrong direction, collided with their motorcycle. The impact was so severe that the motorcycle got stuck under the bus.
Seerat,a 8-year-old girl, who was seated at the front of the motorcycle, died on the spot. Her father Simranjeet Singh suffered fractures in both legs, while Suman Rani and the younger daughter Bani also sustained injuries. The bus, which was reportedly speeding, was carrying schoolchildren.
Villagers at the scene helped the injured to reach the hospital and took the school children safely in another bus. The bus driver, however, fled the scene immediately after the accident.
The Dhilwan police arrived at the site and seized the bus, motorcycle, and the victim’s body. They have launched an investigation and are searching for the bus driver who is still at large. Station House Officer (SHO) Ramandeep Kumar confirmed that they are working on gathering statements from the victims’ family and witnesses, and appropriate action will be taken once the investigation is complete.
The police are urging anyone with information to come forward as the search for the responsible driver continues.
