Tata Motors launched its mini SUV “Punch” on Monday for Rs 5.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
The model designed by Tata Motors studios in India, the UK and Italy, has been developed to become a bearer of entirely a new category - sub-compact SUV. The design was initiated to address the growing demands of customers who wanted a small size but big on space, safety, performance and features.
In a statement, Tata Motors stated that the new mini SUV is India’s first sub-compact SUV that has received the Global NCAP 5-star rating (16.453) for adult occupant protection and a 4-star rating (40.891) for child occupant protection.
To feed the diverse requirements of the customers, Tata Punch has been developed in two options - Manual (MT) and Automatic (AMT) transmission, which will be available in 4 distinct variants – Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative.

Things buyers should know before bringing the car home.
1. For booking the new Tata Punch you will have to pay an amount of Rs 21,000. The booking had begun earlier in October.
2. The new Punch is the first SUV from the ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture offering the features of a hatchback with the characteristics of an SUV.
3. The new model has ARAI-certified fuel efficiency. On a manual transmission, it can offer 18.97 km per litre drive and 18.82 km per litre on an automatic transmission.
4. Recently, earning a 5-star safety rating of 16.453 points from Global NCAP, the new Tata Punch is the first vehicle in India to receive points, which is the highest adult occupant protection rating points for vehicles.
5. Tata Punch will stand below Nexon in the company’s product line-up. Available in both manual and automatic transmissions, it has the feature of a 1.2-litre petrol engine.
6. The mini SUV is available in 4 different ‘Personas’ – Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative, with other customised packages.
7. The newest SUV has got a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Another option given is Tata’s iRA connectivity suite for the top-end Creative variant.

8. Tata Punch comes in 90-degree opening doors, with additional unique features like automatic climate control, cruise control, cooled glovebox, 4-speakers, auto-sensing wipers and also, auto headlights.
9. The new design of the final production version has not changed much from the HBX concept that was exhibited at the 2020 Auto Expo. From the exterior design, the vehicle seems in sync with the Harrier and the Safari.
