The University Grants Commission on the occasion of teacher’s day is set to roll out five fellowships and research grants including two established for the single girl child and retired faculty members today, as said by its chairperson M. Jagadesh Kumar.

The much talked five schemes are: Savitribai Jyotirao Phule Fellowship for Single Girl Child, Dr. Radhakrishnan UGC Post-Doctoral Fellowship, and Fellowship for Superannuated Faculty Members, Research Grant for In-Service Faculty Members, and Dr. DS Kothari Research Grant for Newly Recruited Faculty Members.

While announcing the probable rolling out of these schemes Kumar on Sunday said, "On the occasion of Teachers' Day, UGC is announcing several research schemes which will benefit Higher Educational Institutions across the country.”

The ‘Fellowship for Superannuated Faculty Members’ is being rolled out with the aim to provide retired teachers with an opportunity to conduct research for the bright future of academics in their respective fields.

The UGC is going ahead with a plan of 100 slots initially for the fellowship and upon selection, the candidates will be given Rs. 50,000 per month and the same amount per annum as a contingency.

Next in line is the 'Research Grant for In-Service Faculty Members' which seeks to provide research opportunities to regularly appointed faculty members. UGC will provide assistance of Rs. 10 lakh that is to be provided to 200 selected candidates for a tenure of two years.

‘Dr. DS Kothari Research Grant for Newly Recruited Faculty Members’ the third scheme in line with the five-point UGC plan for this teacher’s day that will be providing research opportunities to regularly appointed faculty members.

The support will be granted to 132 selected candidates to the tune of Rs. 10 Lakh for the period of 2 years.

The 'Dr Radhakrishnan UGC Post-Doctoral Fellowship' will offer an opportunity to carry out advanced studies and research in Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Humanities, and Social Sciences including languages in Indian universities, and institutions.

With a total selection band of 900 candidates out of which 30% are reserved for women candidates. The final shortlisted candidates will be given Rs. 50, 000 per month and an equal amount per annum as a contingency.
