Two policemen were martyred today in an attack by unidentified terrorists in Srinagar’s Barzulla near a sweet shop. The attack took place in Baghat area on a high-security airport road. The two policemen were fired from a short-range, the police said. Security forces have launched a manhunt to track down the assailants. Besides, the gunmen were caught on a CCTV camera.
"Terrorists attacked a police party in Barzulla area of district Srinagar. In this terror incident, two policemen got injured. They have been shifted to a hospital for treatment. Area cordoned off. Further details shall follow," Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet from their official Twitter account. The attack took place a few metres from a police station. Prima facie says that the attack was aimed at police officials and not at the sweet shop.
The Resistance Front (TRF), shadow outfit of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has claimed responsibility for the strike which was caught on CCTV.
The shot policemen were taken to a hospital where they died of their injuries, the police said. The two killed policemen have been identified as Sg CT Mohammad Yousuf and Ct Suhail Ahmad.

This accounts for a second attack in the city in the past three days.
A popular restaurant named Krishna Dhaba was shot by militants, causing the owner’s son injuries in Srinagar on Wednesday. The attacks took place in the city when a 24-member commission of envoys from various countries visited Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday for assessing the ground realities in Kashmir in light of the abolition of Article 370.
