The brooch has a link to many royal weddings, according to People magazine. The Queen wore the Richmond Brooch, which was a gift to her grandmother Queen Mary at her wedding in 1893. The brooch was originally worn as a necklace by Queen Mary, but it is now worn as a brooch by the new Queen.
The brooch has been worn by Elizabeth on both happy and sad occasions. She wore it to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding in 2018, as well as to the 2018 Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance, which was held to commemorate the lives of those who died in wars.
The Queen even left a note on her husband's coffin before it was lowered into the royal vault, in case you missed it. The note was written on Queen Elizabeth's stationery and put on the coffin next to flowers. It appears that the note simply said “I love you” and it was signed by Elizabeth's childhood nickname, Lilibet. According to People, Philip is thought to be the last person to refer to the Queen by her nickname. The palace declined to comment, claiming that this was a "private" topic.
