The Central government's warning on Omicron has alerted
the states of India. Considering the threat posed by Omicron, as of now, 10
states have imposed restrictions before the celebrations of Christmas and New
Year.
A ban has been imposed on Christmas celebrations in
Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Orissa.
As a measure for preventing the surge of Omicron, the
governments of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat have
imposed night curfews in their respective states.
Night Curfews have been declared in the following states:
Rajasthan
There has been a night curfew in the state since the
second wave of COVID, however, the curbs were eased due to a fall in several
cases. But keeping the possible threat of Omicron in mind, the Chief Minister
of the state has started to think about tightening the restrictions. In this
context, a meeting of ministers is convened today.
Madhya Pradesh
A night curfew has been declared in the state after 37
days. A ban has been inflicted on transportation in the state at night between
11:00 pm to 5:00 am. According to the instructions issued by the government, only
fully-vaccinated people above the age of 18 years will be allowed to enter Gym,
Coaching institutes, Theaters, Cinema halls, and swimming pools.
Gujarat
In Gujarat, a Night curfew has been imposed in as many as
8 cities of the state including Ahmadabad, Gandhi Nagar, and Rajkot among others.
Timings of night curfew are from 01:00 am to 05:00am.
Section 144 imposed in Uttar Pradesh
Section 144 has been imposed in Noida and Lucknow, UP to
prevent the surge of Omicron. A night curfew has been imposed from 25th
December to 31st December.
Additionally, a ban on Christmas and New Year
Celebrations has also been imposed in many states of the country.
1. In Delhi, the government has banned Christmas and New
Year celebrations, and also the maximum operational capacity for a public
gathering place has been reduced to 50%.
2. In the context of Maharashtra's COVID managements
guidelines, the government has decided to shut schools and colleges.
3. A 10-day-lock down has been imposed at a village in
Telangana.
4. Just like Delhi, A full stop has been put on all the
new year celebrations in Karnataka too. However, there are no restrictions on
Christmas celebrations except restricting large-scale gatherings in Churches.
5. Odisha has also put a ban on New Year celebrations
between 31st to 1 December.
