Former Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme was murdered on 28 February 1986 outside the cinema hall in Stockholm after taking a movie with his wife and son.
His murderer was never caught. Over three decades, police have enquired over 10,000 people.
Palme, who led Sweden from 1969 to 1976 and again from 1982 till his death, was a divisive figure with many foes. But even after 35 years of his murder, no one can find the person, who is responsible for the division of Sweden. Many people point the finger at the CIA, some at the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), and yet others at the apartheid-era South African government, which Palme criticised.

Dozens of books have been written, TV series have been produced, newspaper articles have been published, and public statements have been made on the assassination of one of Sweden's most popular leaders.
And now, Netflix has arrived with a true-crime-based drama – The Unlikely Murderer, which has ‘solved’ the murder case of the Swedish Prime Minister.

But, who was responsible?
Swedish police, on 10 June 2020, announced that their primary suspect behind the murder of Prime Minister Olof was a 52-year-old graphic designer, Stig Engström, who was also called ‘Skandia man’.
As per the police, he was the primary suspect was had been investigated by the cops since the 1980s, as he was working in an office near the cinema that night but was dropped as a suspect. Stig also came out as the witness of the murder and criticised the Swedish police during the interviews with the media.
The issue was that in 2020 Engström was found dead. At that time, Swedish investigator Krister Pettersson told that he is ‘sure’ that Stig was the murderer and Palme’s case was now closed. The same was concluded by the author of the book ‘The Unlikely Murderer,’ which was released in 2018. The book has now been made into a Netflix series of the same name, which began streaming across Europe on November 5.
But many have different opinions and believe that the case was ‘discontinued’ not solved.
