Guwahati: Within nine days of a batch of specialty tea being auctioned at a record price of Rs 75,000 per kg at Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC), another lot equaled the record today.
A batch of Golden Needles Tea, manufactured by Donyi Polo Tea Estate of East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, sold for Rs 75,000 per kg at the GTAC.
The tea was bought by Chattarsingh Narendrakumar- a city-based buyer.
Vijay Singh Baid said, "We bought it for our client, Absolute Tea, who would be selling this online on their website."

Jayant Jalan of Absolute Tea said, "We had bought Donyipolo Golden Needles and World Championship winning tea from Halmari in the past few years, the response has been superb with people loving the tea. We expect a similar response this year."
Manoj Kumar, Manager of Donyipolo, thanked Swashat Dutta of Contemporary Brokers for marketing the tea.
Satyanjoy Hazarika of Contemporary Brokers said they have consistently found buyers for such specialty tea and he reckons people are willing to pay for great tea.
Dinesh Bihani, Secretary, Guwahati Tea Auction Buyers Association, said it was a positive trend for tea growers and indicated that quality tea had buyers.
The Golden Needles Tea of Donyi Polo has equaled the record set by Golden Butterfly Tea of Dikon Tea Estate of Assam, which was also auctioned for Rs 75,000 per kg at GTAC on August 13.
The 'Golden butterfly' had improved upon the last record of Rs 70,501 per kg, fetched by Maijan Golden Tips, also sold through GTAC on July 31 last.
The Maijan Golden Tips had, on the other hand, breaking the day-old record set by Manohari Gold Tea, who was auctioned for Rs 50,000 per kg on July 30 at the GTAC.
