On Sunday, Rahul Gandhi introduced Channi as the party's CM face at a virtual gathering in Ludhiana.
Rahul Gandhi said "I was asked to decide who should be Punjab CM face. This is Punjab's decision not Rahul Gandhi's decision"
Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, has named Charanjit Singh Channi as the party's chief ministerial candidate in Punjab. On February 6, the Congress revealed its Chief Ministerial face for Punjab, respecting the concerns of Congress workers and Punjab residents.
Channi, 47, was born in Makrona Kalan village, near Chamkaur Sahib, and then moved to Kharar with his family, where he served as a municipal councilor for three terms before becoming President for two more.
He is currently the Assembly Constituency of Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur. He was the leader of the opposition in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha from 2015 to 2016.
After Amarinder Singh resigned, Charanjit Singh Channi became the first Dalit leader to be nominated as Punjab's new Chief Minister. Mr. Channi is a member of the Ramdasia Sikh community who has advocated for Dalit rights in the state. He, too, had rebelled against Amarinder Singh's government for participating in the anti-Amarinder campaign.
