On Sunday the protesters urged President Emmanuel Macron to do more to tackle climate change and global warming.
The "Ensemble pour le climat" marches were held in Paris and other French cities. Organizers said that about 115,000 people participated in 160 events across the country, police said that the figure was close to 47,000.
Several NGOs, trade unions, and student activist groups participated in the protest.
In Paris, protesters were holding a banner that read "climate law = failure of the five-year term", the protest was at the Place de la Republique. One of the protesters, Patricia Samoun said that she is very disappointed by the new climate bill.
The bill has been approved by the lawmakers in the National Assembly.
Under the French Constitution, approval of such a bill would require support from both the houses of the Parliament. But, the upper house, where the Les Republicans party holds a majority, has not been able to find support for this new climate tackling idea.
