On Wednesday, three tourists, including two women swept away in Ganga at Rishikesh, said police officials. Muni-ki-Reti police station’s Senior Police Official (SHO) Kamal Mohan Bhandari said that all of them were there to take bathe in Holy River.
Mr Bhandari said that the first one of the killed people washed away because of the strong current and the other two jumped to save the life of the first. He also said that the group of five landed in Rishikesh on August 1 and were staying at a nearby hotel.

They got washed away in the river’s swift currents that have become stronger due to heavy rainfall upstream since the last few days.”
“Karan Mishra and Nisha Goswami, who were accompanying the victims, informed us about the incident and gave us the contact details of the families of their washed-away friends. We have informed their families,” he continued.

Police officials, along with the Disaster Management team (State Disaster Response Force), have been searching their bodies since Thursday morning. During this search operation, the dead body of an unknown man was fished out by the SDRF, which was handed over to the local police officials.
