Seriously mentioning that the healthcare system has already stretched a lot due to unprecedented hike in the Covid cases especially level-III patients, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma urged the residents of the district to “hibernate” for the upcoming 14-days which would help to flatten the second Covid wave which is more ferocious than the first one.

Interacting with residents during his weekly Facebook live session on DPRO official page, Deputy Commissioner said that as the devastating Covid-19 second wave has been tearing throughout the country, it has also hit Ludhiana with more vengeance.

He said with a sudden surge in level-III patients which require ventilator support and inflow of patients from other states including NCR, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and other parts of Punjab, the district administration was supplying 3600 oxygen cylinders daily to Ludhiana hospitals.

Deputy Commissioner said that every system has its own limitations and if people continue to be negligent towards Covid protocols, this will create conditions witnessing Delhi and Mumbai.

He said that we are sitting on the edge and the situation is already serious here with reporting of 13-14 deaths daily.

Sharma said that it is high time for people to abet the stress of healthcare and other frontline force by staying indoors for the next two weeks and adhering to Covid protocols.

He said that the administration is already pulling out all stops and taking concrete steps for the availability of oxygen/beds as it is our responsibility.
