Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming to Jalandhar today for election campaigning. He will be addressing a rally at the PAP Chowk in Jalandhar in light of which routes have been diverted, and the area has been declared a no traffic zone. However, a case of road accident has come to light at some distance from the venue of PM Modi's event.
A sand-laden tipper overturned on the road near Paragpur on the Jalandhar-Amritsar highway. The incident took place just 2 kilometers away from the venue of PM's rally. There was a long jam on the highway due to the tipper overturning. However, the highway was promptly evacuated by the PM’s security and the traffic police.
According to the information received, driver Satnam Singh was coming from Phagwara towards Jalandhar with his conductor with a tipper filled with sand. Satnam reportedly lost control of the tipper truck, which overturned on the divider. Both the driver and the conductor were taken out safely by the Sadak Suraksha Force (SSF) and traffic police.
Rescued driver Satnam Singh informed that the accident happened at around quarter to 11 in the morning. When he reached near AGI Flats in Paragpur, the front tire of his tipper burst, which caused Satnam to lose control. The tipper then collided with the dividing grill and overturned on the other lane. Sand from the tipper spilled all over the highway as it overturned, resulting in a severe traffic jam.
The police and authorities immediately swung into action as soon as information was received. Within a span of 30 minutes, the police called in a JCB and cleared the entire sand to one side and opened the traffic on the highway.
