To encourage its students to develop reading habit, the government schools across Nawanshahr and Ludhiana district today organised a ‘Library Langar" on its premises, at public places in the vicinity and even the teachers with loads of books in their personal vehicles went door to door to handover the books of their choice to the students.
As per information, around 40,000 books were distributed among students in Nawanshahr district, while, more than 4 lakh books in Ludhiana through this novel initiative today.
DEO (secondary) Lakhvir Sngh Samra while interacting with media said that through this initiative they aim to reach out to maximum students to promote reading and ensure that books are given to them for free. Besides, the initiative holds more importance now as students are bound to be at home due to the pandemic. Thus, it will help in engaging themselves productively without exposure to screens.
He said that large scale poster campaigns via social sites and announcements from gurudwaras and public places were made to sensitise students and their parents regarding the mega event.
Divulging more details, DEO (Secondar) Nawanshahr, Jagjit Singh said that a range of books of different subjects was put on display for not only students, but also for parents. An overwhelming response was witnessed from the students, parents as well as the community to this unique drive.
Deputy DEO (Secondary), Ludhiana, Dr Charanjeet Singh and Deputy DEO(Secondary), Nawanshahr, Amrik Singh said, “Meetings with BNOs and PPPP teams were organised online and different teams were deputed for schools, so that parents and children face no problem and the event could be a big success. We have received a great response, and now the endevour would be made a regular feature for inculcating habit of reading books among the students.
District Nodal officer (Media), Ludhiana-cum -Principal Dr Davinder Singh Chhina, said that as students have enthusiastically participated in the event, now they will also be encouraged to write reviews on the books they picked.

Principal Surinder Pal Agnihotri, Incharge Zila Sikhiya Sudhar Team, Nawanshahr said that the innovative initiative of organising "Library Langar" aimed at inculcating habit of reading books would ultimately prove boon for the students to explore new vistas of knowledge in different faculties.
