As Punjab runs into elections next months, state Congress unit president Navjot Singh Sidhu has made major announcements. In a bid to lure women vote bank ahead of crucial Punjab elections
in 2022, Sidhu promised Rs 2000 per month for housewives and announced to give eight LPG cylinders free of cost every year.
Addressing a massive crowd gathered at his rally in Punjab’s Bahadur on Monday, Sidhu assured women of “equal respect and rights, regardless of their education or occupation,”
and added that “Congress wants to produce more Indira Gandhi and Kalpana Chawla.”
Further, the Punjab Congress head said that registering property in women's names will be entirely free.
Notably, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal has promised to offer Rs1000/month to women if the party wins upcoming elections. Taking a swipe at Kejriwal, Sidhu said that he’s “giving
lollipops to the people of Punjab. But I have a history of keeping my words. I only promise what I could offer.”
The cricketer-turned-politician also slammed the Delhi CM over the Bikram Majithia drug case. He reiterated that Kejriwal had apologised to Majithia. “But, Congress remains firm on
its stance. We filed an FIR against him and now he is scared of Punjab police,” said Sidhu.
