Tokyo Olympics 2020: Kamalpreet Kaur storms into discus finals

Indian discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur has qualified for finals at Tokyo Olympics with the best throw of 64m.

On Saturday, India’s 25-year-old discus thrower made the Olympic stadium her own, she stunned the audience and is now one of the finalists in the discus throw event. 

Kamalpreet Kaur has qualified for the finals at Tokyo Olympics with her best throw of 64m. Kamalpreet’s throw was better than two-time Olympics Champion Sandra Perkovic, whose best throw was 63.75m. 

Kamalpreet started the throw with a 60.29m throw and her second attempt was better and was 63.97m. Her final and best score was 64m. 

The final of Women’s Discus throw has been scheduled for Monday, August 2, 2021.

On Saturday, after qualifying for finals in Tokyo Olympics 2020, Kamalpreet Kaur told her father that she will try her best to win a medal. 

Kamalpreet’s father told a media agency, “I talked to her today and she was very happy. She told me that she will give her best shot in the final. She is always focused on her game and made her dream of participating in the Olympics come true through her sheer hard work.”

Kamalpreet Kaur hails from Kabarwala village in Punjab’s Sri Muktsar Sahib district. Kamalpreet Kaur is an Indian Railway employee and represents the Railways in the National level tournament. She was U-18 and U-20 National Champion in the year 2016. 

Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal congratulated the champion from Punjab and also talked with her through video call. Sukhbir Badal took Twitter and wrote, “Badal Saab & I were thrilled to watch Kamalpreet Kaur qualifying for finals of Discus Throw early this morning with a 64.00 throw at Tokyo Olympics. Congratulations & best wishes from all of us in Punjab!”
