Mirabai Chanu recently returned to India with a silver medal in the women's 49kg category she won at the Tokyo Olympics. As she arrived at the Delhi airport on Monday, the sportsperson was greeted with a warm welcome.
When Mirabai returned to India, the airport staff and people raised slogans of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and 'Vande Mataram' to welcome her. Mira showed amazing performance in Tokyo (49 kg) and managed to win the silver medal.
After reaching Delhi, she underwent a mandatory RT-PCR test at the airport and was greeted with a congratulatory bouquet of flowers.
Mirabai Chanu said after her arrival in India, “I am really happy on winning silver medal in #Tokyo2020 for my country....It's really a dream come true for me. I would like to dedicate this medal to my country and would like to thank a billion prayers of all Indians which were with me during this journey.”
Before leaving for India, she tweeted and said, 'Leaving for home, Tokyo 2020, thank you for the memorable moments of my life.'
During her four successful attempts at the competition, Chanu lifted a total of 202 kg (87 kg in snatch and 115 kg in clean and jerk). China's Zhihui Hou lifted the gold by lifting a total of 210kg and set a new Olympic record, while Indonesia's Windi Kentika Aisa lifted the bronze with a total lift of 194kg.
Boxer Mary Kom on Sunday had congratulated Chanu for winning a silver medal at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics. "Congratulations @mirabai_chanu. Emotional and happy to embrace each other. A proud Manipuri and a fighter for India in one frame," tweeted Mary Kom.
