A meeting of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) was held today under the leadership of farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal at Indu Bhawan in Ludhiana, Punjab. A total of 37 groups participated in the meeting during which farmer leader Rajewal announced that all toll plazas of Punjab will be kept closed till 22 February. During this time, they took a decision in the meeting to surround the houses of all the big leaders of BJP as well.
The farmers who had set out to march to Delhi have been stopped by the Haryana Police at the Shambhu border for the last 6 days. Farmers and soldiers are lobbing tear gas shells and stones at each other. Farmers have met with the Centre several times, but no solution has yet been found. In view of this, United Kisan Morcha held a meeting to dicuss intensifying the protest.
Farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal said that a meeting of 37 groups was held today. It has been decided that on 20th, 21st and 22nd, the houses of BJP leaders from Punjab level to district level will be surrounded day and night. With this, all the toll plazas of Punjab will be made free for 3 days. In places where there are no toll plazas or BJP leaders, farmers will sit in front of the administrative officer's office. Right now, none of the remaining groups in Punjab are marching to Delhi.
Joginder Singh Ugrahan said that it is true that the goods of businessmen are stuck in Punjab. But the farmers did not block the roads, the government has. The government should accept the demands of the farmers. Keeping in view the convenience of the people of Punjab, the farmers had only partially stopped the trains two days ago. Farmers are not stopping the trains because they know that stopping the trains will upset their own people.
There is a meeting of the United Front on 21st. In that meeting, a demand will be made that this campaign should be started all over India so that the law guaranteeing MSP, canceling false cases, getting the culprits of Lakhimpur Kheri punished and the crop insurance scheme can be implemented officially. With this, the demand of complete loan waiver of farmers and provision of pension of Rs 10,000 per month to elderly farmers can be fulfilled. Rajewal said that the struggle will continue until these demands are met.
