Amidst strange 'sky phenomena', the residents of the United States of America (USA) must now prepare for Tornados and Severe storms. On Wednesday, USA's Storm Prediction Center issued a warning and stated that severe weather has moved across Oklahoma and therefore the region is expected to witness Tornado. Furthermore, the Storm Prediction Center issued a Tornado Watch for northwest Louisiana and south Arkansas until 5 a.m. Tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. Parishes included are Caddo, Bossier, Webster, Claiborne, Union, Lincoln, Jackson, Bienville, Red River, De Soto, Sabine, Natchitoches and Winn in Louisiana. Counties in Arkansas are Columbia and Union. They also have a Severe Storm Watch until 3 a.m. for McCurtain county in Oklahoma. Severe storms with hail and gusty winds are possible in and near the watch.
How to protect yourself amidst Tornados & Severe Storm?
Amidst Tornados and Severe Storm, Americans can follow these steps prescribed by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-
1) Go to the basement or an inside room without windows on the lowest floor (bathroom, closet, center hallway).
2) If possible, avoid sheltering in any room with windows.
3) For added protection get under something sturdy (a heavy table or workbench). Cover your body with a blanket, sleeping bag or mattress. Protect your head with anything available.
4)Do not stay in a mobile home.
5)If you are outside or in a mobile home, find a nearby building, preferably with a basement. If you are in a car, do not try to outrun a tornado, but instead find the nearest sturdy building.
6) No one can know a tornado’s strength before it touches down, so keep up with local weather information, especially when thunderstorms are forecasted. Prepare your home and family for the possibility of a tornado.
