Aam Aadmi Party's councillor from Ward Number 62, Vaneet Dhir on Saturday was announced as the New Mayor of Jalandhar. Vaneet Dhir was among the top faces of AAP for the Jalandhar MC Elections 2024. He won from Ward Number 62 by more than 4000 votes. The AAP candidate defeated Congress's Sanjeev Dua quite comfortably. On the other hand, Balbir Singh Bittu was announced as Senior Deputy Mayor, and Malkeet Singh as Deputy Mayor of Jalandhar.
After becoming the Mayor of Jalandhar, Vaneet Dhir exclusively talked to True Scoop and listed his 5 priorities on which he will work. Furthermore, Vaneet Dhir assured the people of Jalandhar that their every single penny will be used to make Jalandhar a beautiful smart city. Not only this, but Vaneet Dhir reiterated Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann's zero tolerance against corruption policy and issued a warning to corrupt officials involved in any kind of scam that is linked to Jalandhar Smart City Project. Vaneet Dhir said, "I think it was the public's money that came in the form of the smart city project of Jalandhar. But, big scams took place with it. It was highlighted in the media as well. Every single penny of the people of Jalandhar that was taken by corrupt officers or whosoever will be brought back. Mann Saab (Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann) has zero tolerance against corruption. The Bhagwant Mann Government of AAP is inclined to work for the development of Jalandhar. I assure the people of Jalandhar that whatever scam that has taken place in the city it will be unraveled."
Vaneet Dhir on dumping waste issue of Jalandhar
Vaneet Dhir further said, "There is not only a dump (Waste) issue in Jalandhar. Jalandhar should get basic facilities that it has not got till now. I am very hopeful that in the upcoming 5 years, we will develop Jalandhar even more. Dump is not the only issue, there are issues of Sewerage, damaged roads, stray dogs, and contaminated water. The basic infrastructure will be given to the people of Jalandhar. "
Vaneet Dhir lists five priorities
Outlining what will be his priority, Vaneet Dhir said, "Every work will be done in parallel. Every department will get the same focus and work will be done. On being asked about his top 5 priorities, Vaneet Dhir said, "The first issue is the issue of dumping waste, then it is sewerage, especially in slums, camp areas havethe problem of contaminated water, people are facing problems due to street dogs, and the money of people will be utilised to make Jalandhar a beautiful smart city."
