A 20 year old woman stunned the world when she married her boyfriend who carried a horrific acid attack on her. The attack disfigured her entire face and left her partially blind.

Berfin Ozek, who rose to prominence as the face of the country's anti-acid attack campaigns, married her 23-year-old boyfriend Casim Ozan Celtik only two years after he doused her face with acid.

In 2019, when Ozek was attacked by Celtik after their relationship ended, she thought she was going to die.

Celtik and Ozek were dating from their teenage years. By the time, Celtik apparently grew extremely possessive about Ozek. After a breakup, the two got into a heated argument. Before throwing the corrosive liquid on her face, Celtik told her that if he couldn't have her, no one could.

Following the attack, Berfin was in immense pain and only had 30 percent of her vision left. After being reported, Celtik allegedly bombarded her with apologies and promises of love, pleading for her forgiveness.

Agreeing to withdraw her complaint about a brief period, Ozek said, "I am not comfortable with him being between four walls there. We've exchanged a lot of letters throughout the years. I've surrendered myself to him. I love him, and so does he."

Following this, Ozek received massive backlash which made her realise her mistake. She again asked her lawyer to reinstate the complaint against Celtik.

Celtik was sentenced to 13 years and six months in jail by a court in the Turkish province of Hatay's district of Iskenderun. However, he was released on probation due to a change in the law brought about by the Covid-19 outbreak.

He proposed to her right after his release, and she accepted.

To her family's surprise, the couple married earlier this month. Yasar Ozek, Berfin's father, said that she married without their knowledge. "I've fought for her for years, and now it's all for nothing."
