Twitter has always been at the forefront of equal opportunities and currently boasts of 42.2% of its global workforce as women in its latest “Inclusion and Diversity” report. In addition, Twitter has always supported movements of minorities on its website like #BlackJoy
In the backdrop of rising momentum behind the #BlackLivesMatter movement, Twitter aims to increase the women in its global workforce to 50% by the year 2025. In addition, 25% of its workforce will be composed of underrepresented minorities, and of that 10% will be Black. To substantiate their claims, Twitter pointed out that 6.3% of its US workforce is already black.
Downplaying the significance of these numbers, Dalana Brand, Twitter's Head of Inclusion & Diversity, wrote in a blog post reporting for the month of September 2020 expressing dissatisfaction that the representation is not up to the mark especially in leadership and technical roles.

Twitter reiterated that it has faith in every team member of their company will, regardless of their location or job, openly embrace equality and a culture of opportunities for all. Twitter wants to create an atmosphere where everyone will feel welcomed and will welcome everyone else. In fact, this is the message that is given to new hires on the first day of their onboarding and orientation.
Twitter goes on to detail that it has courses like “Healthy Conversations” and “Words Matter”. The former course is to guide on respectfully navigating tough topics in the workplace, while the latter is on spotting and interrupting microaggressions. Not only these courses, but something called Allyship will teach people to be a friend and proponent of underrepresented individuals. And to ensure participation, these courses will be mandatory for every employee of the company all over the world.
Twitter seems to walk the talk and it is comforting to witness that a company with the power to mould public opinion all over the world is so responsible.
