A municipal councilor from Aam Aadmi Party Mohd Akhbar was shot dead by unknown assailants at a gym earlier today.
Malerkotla AAP MLA Jamil Ur Rehman said Akbar was their party councilor. “We are helping police in the investigation to nab the accused,” the MLA said.
"Akbar had gone to the gym for a workout when he was shot dead by two unidentified persons. Further investigation is underway,” Malerkotla SSP Avneet Sidhu said.
It is to be noted that Akhbar’s elder brother Mohammad Anwar was also killed by two bike-borne assailants in January 2020. Anwar was a member of Congress when he was killed. The intention, however, behind Akhbar’s killing is unclear by now. The police have initiated the investigation into the matter.
