While India is enraged over the rape & murder case of a doctor in Kolkata's RG Kar hospital, a shocking incident has come to the fore in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. A man was caught on camera raping a woman on the road in the Agar Naka area of Ujjain. As per reports, the man allegedly raped a woman scrap collector on the road in broad daylight after getting her drunk. As soon as Agar Naka Ujjain video went viral on social media, a massive outrage was sparked and the Police come into action. Kotwali Area’s City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Om Prakash Mishra reportedly confirmed that the incident came to light after Ujjain Agar Naka video went viral on social media.
The Police informed that the man seen in the video has been arrested. The heinous crime occurred on Wednesday when the man, who had promised to marry the woman, made the woman drink alcohol and then raped her. He further threatened her against speaking about the sexual assault and fled the spot.
“Accused Lokesh promised to marry her, made her drink liquor, and then raped her on Wednesday. Some people who were passing by shot videos of the incident instead of stopping the crime. Lokesh later fled from the spot. After the woman filed a complaint when the effect of alcohol wore off, Lokesh was arrested,” SP Om Prakash Mishra was quoted by a newswire.
Notably, passersby filmed the video instead of stopping the man from committing the crime. This is another major concern that has been highlighted on social media.
Reacting to the incident, Congress leader Jitendra Patwari took to his X handle and wrote, " (Translated version) Dharamnagari Ujjain has been tarnished once again! This time too, the black mark has been put on the forehead of the law and order of Ujjain. I am in shock that now in Ujjain rapes have started happening in broad daylight, in the open street. This is possible only when the effect of law and government ends completely!
“If this is the condition of the Chief Minister’s hometown, then the condition of the rest of the state can be easily understood. The atrocities being continuously committed against Dalit and tribal women can also be felt!"
