India's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1 presented Union Budget 2025, her 8th budget. Union Budget 2025 was the first full-fledged Budget that was presented by Modi Government 3.0 Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while presenting the Union Budget 2025 in Parliament stated that Agriculture is the first engine of the Union Budget 2025 and hence started her presentation with a plethora of announcements in agriculture sector keeping farmers in focus. - PM Dhandhanya Krisihi Yojna will cover 100 districts with low productivity. It will enhance agricultural productivity and augment storage at the panchayat level. This programme will cover 1.7 crore farmers. The programme will be launched with states.
- Centre will launch a 6-year programme for Atamnirbharta in pulses. "It aims to grow ample opportunities… Global practices will be involved… Our government will launch a programme in pulses, with focus on urad, tur, and masoor," announced Sitharaman.
- Farmers Credit Card limit increased to 5 lakh. "Kisan Credit Card facilitates short-term loans for 7.7 crore farmers, fishermen and dairy farmers. The loan limit under modified interest subvention scheme will be enhanced from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh for loans taken through the KCC. For self-reliance in urea production, our govt had reopened three dormant urea plans in the eastern region to further augment urea supply - a plant with annual capacity of 12.7 lakh metro tonnes will be set up at Namrup in Assam," announced Sitharaman.
