Today marks the 40th day of the farmers’ protest and the seventh round of talks between the protesting farmers and the Centre is being held with two important key issues which have remained inconclusive - the repeal of the three farm laws and giving legal status to the minimum support price guarantee in the next round
Today’s meeting began with Union Ministers and farmers leaders observing 2 minutes of silence for those farmers who died during the demonstrations.
Thousands of farmers have been camping out at the Delhi borders amid the bitter cold and rains, and have warned that they will hold a tractor rally on Republic Day if their demands are not fulfilled.
The Centre in the sixth round of meeting said the two sides had agreed on two of the four demands of the farmers - withdrawal of the Electricity Amendment Bill and the penal provisions for stubble burning in the Air Quality Commission Ordinance.
But the deadlock has persisted over the repeal of the three farm laws which was enacted in September that made the farmers initiate this massive stir.

Although the government in its last round of talks made it clear that it would not repeal the laws as it involves a long process, the government also made it clear that it is not ready for legally enforced support prices for produce and said a committee can be formed to look into the matter.
The Centre is confident that in today’s meeting they will find a way to resolve the issues of the farmers and the whole country awaits to see what holds next.
