Every year, the Universal Health Coverage Day is celebrated on December 12, the day aims to raise awareness of the need for strong and resilient health systems and universal health coverage with multi-stakeholder partners.
Every year on December 12, UHC advocates raise their voices to share the stories of the millions of people who are still waiting for health, to champion what we have accomplished thus far, to call on leaders to make larger and smarter investments in health, and to encourage diverse groups to make commitments to help move the world closer to UHC by 2030.
For the first time, the day was celebrated on 12 December 2017. The United Nations proclaimed 12 December as International Universal Health Coverage Day (UHC Day) by resolution 72/138.
According to the official site of WHO, “Universal Health Coverage Day is an opportunity to review progress and identify gaps in ensuring that everyone, everywhere, can access the health care they need, close to where they live and without falling into financial hardship. It is also a day to focus on what needs to happen next to achieve continuous, concrete progress towards a fairer and healthier world. WHO will release the latest data on universal health coverage, which underscore the impact of COVID-19 on health systems and services worldwide, and show how countries are working to tackle this”
In 2021, the WHO wants volunteers, authorities, donors and other people to “Leave No One’s Health Behind: Invest in health systems for all.”
