Punjab & Haryana High Court on Wednesday unsealed the investigation report submitted by the Special Investigation Team constituted to prove the Lawrence Bishnoi Interview case that took place in 2023. Jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi gave video interviews to two media houses in 2023 and this sparked a massive controversy with a petition being filed in the Punjab & Haryana High Court. As per the unsealed documents, the first interview of the gangster Lawrence Bishnoi was held in police custody in Kharar, Punjab. Whereas, the second interview was held in Rajasthan jail.
For the unversed, Gangster Lawrence's interviews were released on 14 and 17 March in the year 2023. After which questions were raised on Punjab Police. Following this, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav called a press conference in which he claimed that the interview was not done from Bathinda or any jail in Punjab. DGP had shown two pictures of Lawrence and said- that when Lawrence was brought to Bathinda jail, his hair was cut and he did not have a beard or moustache.
Lawrence Bishnoi Interviews & Revelations
Lawrence's first interview was broadcast on March 14. In his first interview, Lawrence had confessed to getting Sidhu Moosewala killed. Lawrence said that Moosewala was getting involved in gang war instead of singing. Moosewala was also involved in the murder of his college friend Akali leader Vicky Middukhera. That is why he got him killed. According to the SIT report, this is the same interview that he gave from the custody of the CIA of the Punjab Police.
For his second interview, Lawrence had also showcased a glimpse of the jail where he was sitting and talking to the news channel. He also showed his barrack and said that he is not allowed to go out, but he gets a mobile and signal too. Lawrence said in his interview that the jail guards rarely come at night, which is why he is calling at night. Lawrence had also given information about the mobile coming inside. According to Lawrence, mobiles are thrown inside the jail from outside. Sometimes the jail staff catches them, but most of the time the mobile reaches him.
In this regard, lawyer Gaurav, who filed a petition against the interview reportedly said, "Today in the hearing it became clear that there are black sheep in the Punjab Police. Those who conducted this interview. This is not the work of any common man. However, efforts are being made to suppress it from the very beginning."
He further said that the court has decided that whoever is involved in this case, direct action will be taken against them. At the same time, action will also be taken against the supervisors in this case. The DGP will file an affidavit in this case. The next hearing is expected to take place in September 2024.
Gangster Lawrence is currently lodged in a Gujarat jail in a case related to drug smuggling. He has been kept in a high-security jail in Sabarmati, Ahmedabad.
