It seems like there is another controversy in the making after the historic judgment of the Ramjanmbhoomi-Babari Masjid case's verdict by the Supreme Court of India and it is none other than the Gyanvapi case. Recently, the Allahabad High Court reserved its verdict till August 3 on a plea against a district court order directing the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to conduct a survey to determine if the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi was built upon a temple. While social media and political parties seem divided on the Gyanvapi issue, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has finally addressed the issue in a later interview with a newswire. CM Yogi Adityanath in his interview urged the Muslim side to rectify the historic blunder which was made and asked what was Trishul (trident) and idols of Hindu Gods & Goddesses were doing inside the mosque. Not only this, CM Yogi stated that the issue should not be called Gyanvapi Mosque but only Gyanvapi. Below is what Yogi Adityanath said-

"If we call it a mosque, then it will be an issue... What is the trident doing there in the mosque? We did not keep it. There is a jyotirling and deities are there..I think there should be a proposal from the Muslim side to fix the historical blunder. We want a solution to this mistake," said Yogi Adityanath adding, " Apart from the Gyanvapi issue, Yogi Adityanath also took a swipe at the opposition alliance I.N.D.I.A. CM Yohi said, "It shouldn't be called I.N.D.I.A. This is a dot com group. Changing clothes won't absolve them of their past deeds."

What is the Gyanvapi dispute?

For those who are still unaware, in September 2022, the Varanasi District and Sessions Court rejected the plea of the Anjuman Intezamia Masajid, who manages the Gyanvapi mosque complex, challenging the maintainability of the civil suits filed by five Hindu women in August 2021 seeking the right to worship Maa Shringar Gauri on the outer wall of the complex. The lawsuit was filed based on the belief that a Hindu temple at the site, adjacent to Kashi Vishwanath temple, was demolised during Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb's reign and a mosque was built on its place.

After the lawsuit was filed by the Hindu side, a video was survey was conducted on the court's order. The Video survey reportedly found a Shivling inside a wazukhana or reservoir on the mosque complex. However, many political parties opposing the claims that the Gyanvapi mosque was built on a temple stated that it was not a Shivling. Amidst the growing debate. the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) recently began the scientific survey of the mosque complex on July 24 after the Varanasi court's order. However, the 'wazukhana' within the mosque complex, where a structure claimed by Hindu petitioners to be a 'Shivling' exists, will not be subject to the survey.
