In an appalling incident, a 40-year-old man chopped off his tongue and offered it to the presiding deity at the Shaktipeeth Kada Dham in Kaushambi on Saturday. The man who offered his tongue to the deity was later admitted to a local hospital and is currently in critical condition. The shocking incident took place at Uttar Pradesh's Shaktipeeth Kada Dham in Kaushambi where the man had come to worship along with his wife. Reportedly, the man along with his wife first took a holy dip in the Ganga at Kubri Ghat, then he chopped off his tongue in front of the deity. The entire incident was filmed and ever since then the video is doing rounds on social media.
In the Shaktipeeth Kada Dham viral video, blood can be seen spilled on the grounds with the man being held by Police personnel. The man's wife can also be seen sitting beside him. In fact, many worshipers gathered around the man to see the appalling incident. HT quoted Abhilash Tiwari, SHO of Kada Dham Kotwali saying that the couple paid obeisance to Goddess Sheetla Devi, and before anyone could react, Sampat cut off his tongue using a knife he was carrying.

The man was admitted to a community health centre (CHC), Ismailpur. After first aid, the doctors referred him to the district hospital. For those wondering why the man offered his tongue, a report suggests that Sampat, a farmer, offered his tongue to the Goddess as his prayers came true. Reportedly, he had paid his debts and as a gesture of his gratitude, he offered his tongue.
