The recent mass shooting in Washington is yet another addition to the alarming trend of gun violence in the United States. As per reports, multiple people have been shot in the southeast suburb of Washington, and the police are currently searching for a potentially armed suspect, a young Indian man associated with a black Honda car and wearing a hoodie.
This incident comes in the wake of multiple shootings in the US in the past few weeks. Just five days ago, four people, including a high school football player, were killed and over two dozen were injured in a shooting at a teenager's birthday party in Dadeville, Alabama. Similarly, at least four people were killed in a house in Maine, and three others were injured in a busy highway shooting, both of which are linked.
The country has seen a surge in mass killings in recent years, with 2023 setting a record pace for such tragedies. There have been 17 mass killings resulting in 88 deaths in just 111 days, with firearms being the primary weapon used. The past decade has seen even more gruesome records being set, with 45 mass killings in 2019 and 230 people killed in such incidents in 2017 alone.
