Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat, who hadsworn in as the state’s head representative barely 4 months ago, on Fridaytendered his resignation to the BJP national chief JP Nadda.

In a letter to Mr. Nadda, the CM said he wants to resignfrom his position in order to avoid a constitutional crisis in the state.

After submitting the resignation, Mr. Rawat seeks to meetGovernor Baby Rani Maurya soon.

Meanwhile, the BJP has asked the Union Minister NarendraSingh Tomar to go to Dehradun as an observer on July 3.

It is to be reiterated here, Mr. Rawat sworn in as CM inMarch 2021 after a dissent broke out against the former CM TrivendraRawat.

In Uttrakhand, elections are just a year away, and inorder to retain his position as CM, Mr. Tirath Rawat will need to win anassembly seat and become a member of the Uttarakhand legislative assembly bySeptember 10.

However, due to the prevalent Covid-19 situation, theElection Commission of India is also in the state of dilemma to announce by-pollsor not.

Going by the media reports, leaders within the UttrakhandBJP unit has raised voice against Mr. Rawat and had sought a replacement.

Though Rawat ruled over the state for a short span, histerm is packed with controversies as he had made some hilarious remarks. Once Mr. Rawat commented on women wearingripped jeans followed by the US, not Britain ruled India for 200 years.

Moreover, organizing and handling Kumbh Mela amid theCovid-19 peak had also brought him flak of criticism as he said “no RT-PCR test”was required.
