Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat, who had sworn in as the state’s head representative barely 4 months ago, on Friday tendered his resignation to the BJP national chief JP Nadda.
In a letter to Mr. Nadda, the CM said he wants to resign from his position in order to avoid a constitutional crisis in the state.
After submitting the resignation, Mr. Rawat seeks to meet Governor Baby Rani Maurya soon.
Meanwhile, the BJP has asked the Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar to go to Dehradun as an observer on July 3.
It is to be reiterated here, Mr. Rawat sworn in as CM in March 2021 after a dissent broke out against the former CM Trivendra Rawat.
In Uttrakhand, elections are just a year away, and in order to retain his position as CM, Mr. Tirath Rawat will need to win an assembly seat and become a member of the Uttarakhand legislative assembly by September 10.
However, due to the prevalent Covid-19 situation, the
Election Commission of India is also in the state of dilemma to announce by-polls
or not.

Going by the media reports, leaders within the Uttrakhand BJP unit has raised voice against Mr. Rawat and had sought a replacement.
Though Rawat ruled over the state for a short span, his term is packed with controversies as he had made some hilarious remarks. Once Mr. Rawat commented on women wearing ripped jeans followed by the US, not Britain ruled India for 200 years.
Moreover, organizing and handling Kumbh Mela amid the Covid-19 peak had also brought him flak of criticism as he said “no RT-PCR test” was required.
