Vaccine rumours: Experts say vaccine works like seat belt to save people from fatal mishaps

Doctor’s panel says that Covid vaccine reduces severity and minimizes hospitalization. Ludhiana DC interviews specialists to bust myths or misinformation

To dispel the rumours, hoaxes or superstitions surrounding the Covid-19 vaccine, the Ludhiana administration has come together with the renowned medical specialists to boost the vaccination among the eligible.

On Friday, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma live interviewed panel of three specialist doctors including Dr Bishav Mohan from DMC Hospital, Dr Harminder Singh Pannu from Fortis Hospital and Dr Kiran Gill Ahluwalia, Covid nodal officer Ludhiana on the Facebook page of District Administration.

These doctors stressed that Covid vaccine reduces severity of illness, even if the person gets an infection after taking the vaccine and reduces the chances of hospitalization. They further emphasized that the vaccine will help to build the herd immunity hence it would help to contain the pandemic.

Giving example of seat belt in vehicles, they said that as belt minimizes chances of fatal mishap same like that the  vaccine also protect human beings in case of infection, they would only suffer mild symptoms.

They said the vaccines have not any concern with infertility.

They said that some residents are avoiding vaccination due to the myth that they have to avoid consuming alcohol for over a month which is not true.

They added that if anyone have fever or throat infection or acute weakness, people must avoid from some days.

On the question of one of residents whether a heart/kidney patient can take vaccine, answering this, Dr Bishav Mohan said that they must take vaccine without any kind of doubt and there is no need to stop blood thinner.

Dr Harminder Singh Pannu explained about the efficiency of current two Covid vaccines on new mutant variants and made it clear that both Covishield and Covaxin are very much effective against new variants.

She also debunked the misinformation about difference between vaccines being administrated in government and private hospitals and said it is government which is supplying the vaccine to the private hospitals.

On a question when the Covid will be over, they said that it mostly depends upon the people as how they tackle it. They told that as much as we will continue to adhere to Covid appropriate behaviour, the pandemic will be contained at the earliest.

We all must wear face masks, maintain social distancing and adopt hand hygiene daily otherwise we will. continue to face many more waves of contagion.
