Vande Bharat express is currently the most prestigious train in the country which can be gauged from the fact that all the VB Expresses running in the country, were inaugurated by PM Modi himself. Recently however, its prestige has been brought into question as several commuters took to Social Media to complain about the sub-par to inedible food being served on the train.
Vande Bharat Express is different among the premium trains of the country with a higher fare than its equivalent trains. Considering this, it is expected to provide the best facilities that train travel in India has to offer. But social media is awash with frequent complaints regarding the bad food. Once again a complaint has come to light highlighting an incident on Vande Bharat running between Dehradun and Anand Vihar. In this, a passenger has complained about being served moldy curd.
Yesterday, a user named Harshad Topkar @hatopkar had tweeted on the social media site X (earlier Twitter). He said that he is traveling in Executive Class (the highest class of this train) of Vande Bharat Express between Dehradun and Anand Vihar. Mold was found in the curd served to them. This kind of food cannot be expected at least in the service of Vande Bharat. He has also taken a photo of moldy curd and posted it in the tweet.
Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), the government company handling the catering service of this train, has responded to this tweet. He says that action was taken immediately on this issue. The supervisor traveling in that train immediately replaced the spoiled curd. During investigation it was found that the pack of curd was within the expiry date limit. Now this matter is being taken up with the manufacturer of the curd (Amul).
This incident is of February 1, 2024. Dr. Shubhendu Keshri (@iamdrkeshri) had tweeted an incident. He wrote that he was traveling in 20173 Vande Bharat Express running between Rani Kamalapati to Jabalpur. A dead cockroach was found in his rice. On this, IRCTC replied to the passenger's post saying, 'We are extremely sorry for your experience. This matter has been taken seriously and a heavy penalty has been imposed on the concerned service provider. Apart from this, monitoring has been tightened at the source.”
This is not the first time that complaints of bad food have been received in Vande Bharat train. Earlier on January 6, 2024, a passenger named Akash Kesari (@akash24188) had tweeted a tweet tagging Indian Railways and Ashini Vaishnav. He had written that he was traveling in 22416, New Delhi-Varanasi Vande Bharat. The food served to them stinks. The quality of food is also very bad. These vendors of Railways are spoiling the name of Vande Bharat Express.
