Who is Ovidio Guzmán? Son of drug kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman arrested by Mexican forces
Ovidio Guzman, nicknamed “El Raton” was nabbed in the North-Western city of Culiacan from there he was flown to the Mexican capital city on a military plane, country Defence Minister Luis Cresencio said while apprising reporters about the matter’s development.
Reportedly his arrest was the result of six months of intelligence work tracking down the 32-year-old, who has helped to run his father's operations since "El Chapo" was extradited to the United States in 2017.
The United States had offered a reward of up to $5 million for information leading to Ovidio Guzman's capture, accusing him of being a key player in the infamous Sinaloa cartel.
The arrest of Guzman shook Culiacan after his workers and henchmen resorted to Gunfire and arson, which is happening a week before the North America Leaders Summit as Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador braces for a high-level meet.
In the act of retaliation a passenger jet was also hit by a bullet in its fuselage, although fortunately, no casualty took place the airline Aeromexico said.
"El Chapo" is serving a life prison sentence in the United States for trafficking hundreds of tons of drugs into the US over the course of 25 years. Even though his cartel remains one of the most powerful in entire Mexico.
Guzman alongside one of his brothers is accused of overseeing nearly a dozen of methamphetamine labs in Sinaloa as well as conspiring to distribute cocaine and marijuana, according to the US State Department.
