A 28-year-old Vietnamese man accused of flouting strict Covid 19 quarantine rules and spreading Coronavirus infection among his contacts has been sentenced to jail for five years
According to local media reports from Vietnam, Le Van Tri was pronounced guilty of "spreading dangerous infectious diseases to other people" after he travelled to his hometown in Ca Mau province from Covid hotspot Ho Chi Minh City in July, according to a report on the website of the provincial People's Court.

After having successfully contained the spread of Covid during the first wave in 2020 reporting the lowest cases in the world, the pandemic situation in Vietnam has turned worse, with around 540,000 infections being recorded and over 13,000 deaths. The majority of deaths and infections have been reported since April, prompting authorities to put the capital city Hanoi and commercial hub Ho Chi Minh city under stringent lockdown rules for most of the past few months.

Vietnam has come up as a smart country in containing the virus spread which resulted from targeting mass testing, aggressive contact tracing, tight border restrictions and strict quarantine. However, new clusters this year have spoiled the hard work. Meanwhile, looking at the condition of the country, the health ministry has ordered that Ho Chi Minh City and capital Hanoi all adults be vaccinated with at least one dose of Covid vaccine by September 15.
