Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday sacked his cabinet minister Vijay Singla as he was found to be involved in corruption where he sought a 1% commission in every tender of the health department. After this, he was arrested by the Vigilance department. Currently, Singla is on three-day police remand.
The Vigilance department has initiated a full-fledged investigation of Singla’s two and half months tenure. As to whom he allotted tenders and to whom he didn’t and also what was the reason behind the allocation.
The vigilance department is all set to investigate the CCTV footage of room number 203 of Punjab Bhavan where Singla tried to strike a deal.
Investigating officers are also about to probe the office-bearers of 28 firms that registered themselves for getting tenders. All those who are close allies of Singla are afraid of the probe.
In connection with this case, call records of Singla and his OSD are also being investigated and will be sent to the forensic laboratory to retrieve all deleted chats. As per information, the last three months’ call details are being collected. In total 60 tenders of Mohalla Clinics too were allotted by Singla which are under scanner.
Police also collected some files from Singla's official residence in Sector 39, Chandigarh. The complainant Superintendent Engineer (SE) alleged that OSD asked for a commission of Rs 1.16 crore.
Vijay Singla has movable assets of worth Rs. 1,08,82,011 crore, immovable assets worth Rs. 5,40,00,000 crore which amounts to a total of Rs. 6 crores +. His Liabilities are around Rs. 27 lakhs+. He has no criminal background. In this assembly election, he won the Mansa seat with a margin of 63323 (36.4%). He got 100023 (58%) votes and runner-up Sidhu Moosewala got 36700 (21%) votes.
