A video showing a group of men beating a cop has gone viral on the internet. The incident occurred in a village of Madhya Pradesh where villagers have alleged that the policeman had hit a local on his head. However, police have denied the allegation and revealed that locals got infuriated when the cop told them to shut the shops amid coronavirus curfew.
In a disturbing video, several angry men can be seen brutally thrashing the cop. One of them apparently has a head injury and nobody is seen wearing a mask. The video is said to be of Chhatarpur village which is about 330km from state capital Bhopal.
In another video of the same incident, some angry men are seen shouting and abusing. One of them has sustained an injury at the head and is shouting abuses at the camera.
The cop could be seen struggling to get up from the ground and the sticks with which the cop was beaten are seen lying around. On being asked about the reason for the incident, the cop said, “They hit me when they were told to shut the shops.”

Another officer, Shashank Jain said, “We had got inputs that Covid curfew is being violated in Jhamtuli village. A team went there to enforce restrictions. Some people got angry when they were told to shut shops and they thrashed the staff.”
Currently, the matter is under investigation. “We are still probing the matter. As soon as we get more details, we will take necessary action,” Mr. Jain said.
