Amid raging coronavirus pandemic, a video has gone viral showing a serious violation of covid-19 safety protocols. Video allegedly shows PPE kits, masks and gloves being washed inside a biomedical waste disposal unit to be sold again in the market.

The incident is said to be reported from Satna in Madhya Pradesh. The video that went viral on Wednesday claims that these personal protective gear for covid-19 are being washed manually to ready them for sale in the market.

As soon as the video went viral, panic triggered in the state and the matter is now under investigation. The district administration has handed the probe to the Madhya Pradesh pollution control board.

According to a health department official, "the employees of a Biomedical waste disposal company were washing personal protective equipment i.e PPE kit and gloves used by doctors and paramedical staff working in covid-19 wards in several hospitals of Satna district. This was being done in order to resell the protective gears."

In another video of the same incident, the employees can be seen packing these washed-up PPE kits and gloves.

An employee of the company alleged that Indo water management and pollution control Corporation supplied the used PPE kits and gloves to other districts.

"Instead of cutting the kit into pieces, the management has asked us to wash the used PPE kits. They told us that boiled water will kill the virus. The company got at least 1,000 kits daily for disposal at Rs10 per kit. I don't know how much they are making from reselling it," an employee revealed.

"Bio disposal plant in Barkhera has been given a contract to dispose of PPE kits and gloves by the district administration. The company is also working for some private hospitals. The kits and gloves are for single-use and such an act can spread more infection," the State Health Department additional director Pankaj Shukla said.

Sub-divisional magistrate Rajesh Shahi has said that an investigation team is sent to the plant as per the directions of the collector. The team is preparing an inquiry report. He added that it is a serious issue and actions will be taken in case allegations are proved.
