Virat Kohli, Team India's ODI captain, was fired by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) last week, and it has now been revealed that the batter will miss the ODI series against South Africa at the start of next year.

Kohli has told the board that he would not be available for the ODI series since he plans to celebrate his daughter Vamika's first birthday with wife Anushka Sharma on Monday (December 14). Vamika will turn one on January 11, the day Kohli takes the field in the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town.

Kohli has requested the board for a short break in January next year, according to sources familiar with the situation who spoke to a leading news agency.
