The 2022 edition of the MTV Video Music Awards concluded on Sunday night with Taylor Swift marking a return to the awards after a gap of 3 years.

The award function was hosted by LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj, and Jack Harlow which took place at the Prudential Center in Newark on Sunday. The big names were celebrated at the award night, however, the festivities relatively proved to be a little tame compared to the previous years.

The 17 times VMA nominee rapper Nicki Minaj received the coveted Video Vanguard Award and began the performance with a mash-up of her all-time hits that included everything from "Super Bass" to her newest single, "Super Freaky Girl."

One of the weird moments of the night came in from Johnny Depp who appeared on the stage as a Moonman while floating randomly in the event arena during the entire course of the ceremony.

The award night proved to be a career-defining moment for many and while for other past coveted award winners it seemed to be just another outing at the award show.

Bad Bunny took away the Moon Person trophy for being the year’s best artist, while Billie Eilish’s ‘Happier than Ever’ was recognized as the song of the year.

Other recognitions at the award show included the names of:

Video of the Year: ‘All Too Well’ by Taylor Swift (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version).

US: Two Phoenix police officers sustain bullet injuries in the shootout, probe underway

Best New Artist: Dove Cameron with Disruptor Records / Columbia Records.

Push Performance of the Year: ‘Rock with You’ by SEVENTEEN.

Best Collaboration: Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow for ‘Industry Baby’

Best Pop: Harry Styles for ‘As It Was’

Best Hip-Hop: Nicki Minaj ft Lil Baby for ‘Do we Have a Problem’

Best Cinematography: Harry Styles for ‘As It Was’

The VMA 2022 edition awards night recognized the artists in a total of 25 separate categories with Taylor Swift emerging to be the best performer who unsurprisingly swept away the awards for her ‘All Too Well’ in Video of the Year, Best Longform Video, and the Best Direction.

After accepting her Moon Person trophy, she revealed that she has a new album coming out on Oct. 21 and would be providing more details at midnight.
