The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday announced the much-awaited Lok Sabha Elections 2024 dates and schedules. Apart from Lok Sabha Elections 2024 schedule, multiple state assembly election dates were also announced. Rajiv Kumar, Chief Election Commissioner of India, during the press conference, stated that there are a total of 96.8 crore electorates out of which 1.8 crore first-time voters (18-19 years), 19. 74 crore young voters (20 to 29 years old), 49.7 crore male, 47.1 crore female, 82 lakhs (85 plus age voters), 48,000 transgender, 88.4 lakhs (PwD), 19.1 lakhs (Service Electors), 2.18 lakhs (Centenarians). Interestingly, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced that there will also be a provision for 'Vote From Home'. Now, the question arises what is voting from home eligibility, and how to vote from home during Lok Sabha Elections?
Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Vote From Home
Rajiv Kumar announced that the ECI has enabled the vote-from-home option for candidates who are 85-plus in terms of age in Lok Sabha Polls 2024. Apart from the senior citizens, Persons with Disabilities (PwD) will also have the option to vote from home. The CEC during the press conference stated that a team of Election Commission or Polling Officers will visit the homes of voters registered under this and will take their votes. They will be given a form named 12 (D). Rajib Kumar said, "85 plus age persons and disabled(more than 40%) can vote from home. 'Form 12D' will be sent to all homes by EC and is also available online and can be downloaded."
As mentioned above, there are 82 lakhs (85 plus age voters) and 88.4 lakhs (PwD) voters out of 96.8 crore registered electorates.
