On Sunday, an under-construction building promoted by BSP MP Dawood Ahmed in Lucknow was demolished. This action was taken after a red flag was given by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
ASI has cited its proximity to the protected site of the Residency in Lucknow. A residency is a group of buildings that served as home for the British Resident General who was a Nawab representative in the court. At the center of the Siege of Lucknow during the First War of Independence, the demolished building was believed to be built in the 18th century.

When media organizations asked the Lucknow District Magistrate, Abhishek Prakash about the razed building he said that as per the ASI guidelines, no construction is permitted within 300 meters of protected monuments. This was at about 123 metres from the Residency.
He further said that notice of demolition was issued by the ASI in the year 2018, after which the MP moved to the high court, but there his petition was dismissed. The ASI had given time to the former MP but that wasn’t done, therefore the Lucknow Development Authority razed it.
