Anurag Kashyap is clearly one of Bollywood's most progressive filmmakers today. And now, thanks to his daughter Aaliyah Kashyap's YouTube account, we can see what a progressive father he is. Aaliyah released a Father's Day video in which she addressed Anurag with some uncomfortable and awkward questions sent to her by her fans. Anurag and Aaliyah talked about menstruation and the taboo surrounding it, as well as premarital sex, teenage pregnancy, and other topics in the video.

Aaliyah opened the video by asking Anurag how he would respond if he found that his daughter is gay. Anurag shared a message for all parents in answer to the question. “Don't be afraid of something you don't understand.  Fear causes them (parents) to overreact. Always remember how you feel when you were that age, and how you felt when your parents didn't understand.” See video here.

Aaliyah also asked about Anurag's feelings for Shane Gregoire, Aaliyah's boyfriend. “He appeals to me. In general, I like your boy's choice. He's very spiritual, very calm, and possesses qualities that even guys in their forties lack when it comes to being present in difficult situations,” Anurag responded.

When asked about his thoughts on girls hanging out with guys, Anurag stated, "I believe a lot of these questions stem from how parents react to their children, but the parents need to understand that the India they grew up in no longer exists. It's all in their minds. We were much more repressed than our children. They are able to express themselves more freely. As a result, I think we should refrain from imposing ourselves.

Anurag also responded to questions posed from Aaliyah's point of view. One of the questions posed to him was what he would do if Aaliyah revealed she was expecting a child. “I'll check to see if you're sure you want it. Whatever you do, I'll support you,” Anurag said, adding that when it comes to sex or sexuality, people should make informed choices that are not influenced or influenced by peer pressure or to prove how cool they are.

Anurag's views on menstruation were also questioned by one of the users. There is a taboo surrounding the biological function of a woman's body. why would I have an opinion on periods? Anurag said,''  Because they haven't been through it, men shouldn't have an opinion about it. It needs to be normalised. Because of the shame associated with it, some parts of the country have chosen to deal with it quietly. It shouldn't be like the above.”

Following that, Aaliyah spoke about how guys should be permitted to cry. Aaliyah, who calls Anurag a big crier, attributes her over-sensitive behaviour to her father. Aaliyah said, “He is the most sensitive person. I am overly sensitive, which I get from you (referring to Anurag).”

YouTube people flooded the comment area with admiration for Anurag and praised his forward-thinking as soon as the video was released. One user wrote, "I can look Aaliyah in the middle of her talk staring and feeling so happy of her dad on his thought process," while another praised Anurag for his views on a variety of topics.

“Happy Father's Day to the wise man who, along with your sweetest mother Aarti, has helped raise such a discerning and cool daughter! Every daughter needs fathers and mothers like them, who guide their children through life but never force their ideologies on them, allowing them to make the final decisions. Another comment read, "Sending you lots of positive energy and love."

Anurag Kashyap's most recent film, AK vs AK, is now available on Netflix.
