There was an apparent feeling of euphoria among the individuals who entered India from Afghanistan on Sunday.
One of the evacuees, an Afghan woman, said that her country is in dire condition. “Situation was deteriorating in Afghanistan, so I came here with my daughter and two grandchildren. Our Indian brothers and sisters came to our rescue. The Taliban burnt down my house. I thank India for helping us”, she said.
On Sunday morning, 168 people were evacuated by the Indian Air Force (IAF) C-17 aircraft that took off from Kabul and brought to Ghaziabad, India. A total of 107 were Indian nationals and 23 were Afghan Sikhs who were onboard. All passengers of the aircraft were made to undergo compulsory COVID-19 RT-PCR test on touch down at the Hindon airbase at Ghaziabad.
As the situation worsens in war-torn Afghanistan, countries are evacuating their citizens on an urgent basis and thousands of people are trying to escape the country's borders. The instability in the region has caused massive unrest at the Kabul airport which is currently under the control of U.S. troops.
In the group of evacuees were Afghani children and infants also who were seen rejoicing upon entering India.

A total of 390 people have been evacuated from Afghanistan and brought to India by three aircraft, of which 329 were Indians. Earlier, 87 Indians and 2 Nepalese were also evacuated to India by an IAF aircraft.
