Weather alert: IMD warns of rain & dense fog across Punjab and 20 other states

As per the Meteorological Department, a western disturbance is active in the form of a cyclonic circulation over eastern Afghanistan, additionally, a cyclonic system is also active in Assam and northeastern states, that can cause rain in these areas.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of major changes in the weather across the country in the next few days. As per IMD, two western disturbances are going to be active on 1st February and 3rd February, which will affect the weather in over 20 states.

There is a possibility of rain, snowfall and dense fog in many areas. This effect may continue till 5th February.

This western disturbance will have a greater effect in the northwestern states including Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana and Rajasthan.

There may be snowfall in the hilly states and rain in the plains as well. At the same time, dense fog may persist in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal.

There is also a possibility of snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Ladakh due to the western disturbance till 5th February. Additionally, there will be no significant change in temperature in Uttar Pradesh for the next 5 days, but there may be light fog in the morning and evening.

There are chances of rain in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan between 3rd and 5th February. In addition, there is a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning in Gwalior, Chambal, Indore and Ujjain of Madhya Pradesh.

Apart from this, light to moderate rain is expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Sikkim, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala.

The Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) has warned of thunderstorms and heavy rains in Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts of Tamil Nadu in the next two days. The local administration has advised people to remain alert.

There is a possibility of rain in Delhi-NCR for the next three days. In view of the changing weather across the country in the next few days, people have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
