Weather alert issued in Punjab: drivers urged to stay cautious on the roads

The weather department has issued an orange alert of cold wave till 29 December, while yellow alert has been declared for the next two days.

Following the rain, the weather has cleared and the Air Quality Index (AQI) has improved, while the cold wave continues due to snowfall in the mountains. Due to the lack of sunlight throughout the day, the public life is getting affected. 

The weather department has issued an orange alert of cold wave till 29 December, while 30 and 31 December have been declared as yellow alert. Due to this, fog will be seen for 3 consecutive days.

Amidst the rainy weather, today the maximum temperature of the metropolis was recorded at 16 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was around 8 degrees. At the same time, the highest temperature in the state was recorded at 18.6 degrees in Bathinda while the lowest temperature was recorded at 16.4 degrees in Ludhiana.

According to the weather experts, due to the rain the sun did not rise because of which a decrease was recorded in the maximum temperature while there was not much decrease in the minimum temperature. In many districts of the state the minimum temperature has reached above 10 degrees.

Recently, the AQI in the city had reached above 385, while after the rain yesterday, the maximum AQI was recorded at 268. At the same time, according to the latest data, the maximum AQI of the city was 180 while the minimum was recorded at 41, which is a big relief of 200 points compared to 2 days ago. On Saturday at around 8.15 am the AQI was 41 degrees which was the lowest while at 2.13 pm it was 180. Similarly, it was recorded at around 10 pm.

After two days of rain, the weather has cleared today. At the same time, after the sun rises, there will be heavy fog in the evening, so the drivers going on the highway in the evening need to be cautious. Weather experts said that in case of sudden change in the weather, one should be prepared in advance.
