The only highway linking the Kashmir Valley to the rest of the country is now through for one-way despite fresh snowfalls, landslides and shooting stones, reported a traffic police official on Wednesday morning.
The national highway connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir and the historic 86-km-long Mughal road linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region has been closed since December last year. The traffic also remained suspended on Anantnag-Kishtwar road due to accumulation of snow.
"The traffic, from Wednesday, will ply from Jammu to Srinagar only and no vehicle, including security force convoy, would be allowed from opposite direction. However, the vehicles will have to cross Udhampur by 1000 hrs and no vehicle will be allowed after the deadline," the police official said.
He added that the one-way traffic was partially restored yesterday afternoon after remaining suspended for seven days due to landslides and shooting stones triggered by rain and snow.
